Ingredients
1.5 lbs ground pork
1 onion, minced
1 egg
1/2 cup apple, grated
1/4 cup celery, minced
1/2 cup sweet potato, grated
1/4 cup cranberries, finely chopped (I place mine in the food processor and pulse to tiny pieces)
1 tsp dried sage
1 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp each salt and pepper
Directions
- Place all ingredients in a mixer (or mix by hand) until well combined
- Shape the mixture into 1 inch thick patties (this should make about six 1-inch patties)
- Grill for 5 minutes on either side or until the meat is cooked
- If it’s too cold out to grill, these taste great in the oven too! Put them in at 375 for about 20 minutes.
Note
I have also made these burgers in the oven and wrapped them in bacon – they were Ahhh-mazing 🙂 Enjoy!
Are you using fresh cranberries, or dried sweetened cranberries?
Frozen and unsweetened. Hope you get a chance to try these, we love ’em!
Thank you!
Where do you source your pork from? I have been “shopping” around. Recipe looks great.
Sadly, I didn’t get my pork from Whole Foods this time, it was just regular grocery store pork *gasp*. I need to find a good bulk order from a good farmer (getting on that!)
Me, too! Just didn’t know if you’d found an on-line supplier or anything–if you do, keep us readers posted! (We, too, get our pork most often from the local grocery store.) Have a good day!
I love apple and pork! I have some frozen saskatoon berries – I bet they would work in place of the cranberries.
I have some frozen sask berries too! maybe I should try that!
Did you try this? I’m not sure my family would like this. I’ve not had success with them liking pork with apples.
I made this chicken salad last night with my coconut oil (accidentally used virgin – makes for some weird mayo taste.. Grrr…) and Mike loved it. I was really surprised b/c the flavors didn’t blend quite as I had hoped. Still there weren’t leftovers so I don’t have lunch. I’m going to make that shrimp salad for me I think. Claire wants pizza for dinner . I don’t think I do. Well talk with you tonight.
Thanks for the wasabi powder. Hope it wasn’t too expensive.. $33 per pound is quite spendy. You can see why I didn’t want to invest in a huge amount only to have it get old from disuse.

P. S. I’m taking the day off tomorrow
Hi Susan. Hope you give these a try. My family loves them (kid approved)
